Wesley Parish Hunt, a Republican member of Congress from Texas, was born on November 13, 1981, in Houston, Texas, to Willie L. Hunt, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, and Dianne Johnson Hunt. Wesley’s siblings are D’Hania Hunt and Wrendon Hunt, both graduates of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Hunt graduated from St. John’s School in Houston in 2000. Afterward, he accepted an appointment to West Point, thus receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in leadership and management with a Field of Study in Mechanical Engineering was commissioned in the U.S. Army in 2004. He served in the Army as an Aviation Branch Officer and AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopter pilot until he was honorably discharged at the rank of captain in 2012. During this period, Hunt was deployed once to Iraq and twice to Saudi Arabia as a Diplomatic Liaison Officer.
In 2015, Hunt earned a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Remaining at Cornell, he received a Master of Industrial and Labor Relations degree in 2016.
In 2020, Hunt vied for Texas’s 7th Congressional District. He received 61% of the vote for the Republican primary election. However, the incumbent Democrat, Lizzie Fletcher, gained 50.8% in the general election, while Hunt narrowly lost, receiving 47.4% in the contest. Two years later, in 2022, Hunt won the GOP primary outright in a 10-person race with over 63.8% of the vote.
Hunt won his contest in a new west Houston district over Democrat Duncan Klussmann with 35.0% and independent Joel DeJean with 1.2% in the general election for U.S. House Texas District 38 on November 8, 2022. Hunt became the first congressman in the history of that Congressional District.
On January 3, 2023, Hunter assumed office as a Republican Congressional Representative from Texas’ 38th District. He emphasizes defending the infrastructure of the oil and gas industry in Houston, calling the city an energy hub and the world’s energy capital. In addition, Hunt continues to investigate the immigration crisis along the Texas border, describing it as a present danger to U.S. sovereignty and security.
The Honorable Wesley Parish Hunt, who serves in Texas’ 38th District until January 3, 2025, is married to Emily Hunt, a pediatric nurse practitioner. They are the parents of two daughters, Victoria Hunt and Olivia Hunt, and a son Willie Parish Hunt II.
Otis D. Alexander, Library Director at Saint John Vianney College Seminary & Graduate School in Miami, Florida, has also directed academic and public libraries in the District of Columbia, Indiana, Texas, and Virginia. In addition, he has been a library manager in the Virgin Islands of the United States as well as in the Republic of Liberia. His research has appeared in Public Library Quarterly, Scribner’s Encyclopedia of American Lives, and Virginia Libraries journal. Alexander received the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from the University of the District of Columbia and the Master of Library & Information Science degree from Ball State University. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from International University and studied additionally at Harvard Graduate School of Education Leadership for Academic Librarians, Oberlin Conservatory of Music Voice Performance Pedagogy, and Atlanta University School of Library & Information Studies.
