William Block
Bill Block is currently a volunteer attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington. He received his JD from the University of Chicago Law School and his BA from Pomona College. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Justice Harry Blackmun on the U.S. Supreme Court. He moved to Seattle in 1977 with a law practice focused on complex real estate transactions and civic involvements focused on low income housing. In 2005, he left the law to become Director of the Committee to End Homelessness, the public/private partnership implementing the 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness in Seattle/King County. In 2013, President Obama appointed him Regional Administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Region X (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington). Among other civic involvements, he has served as Chair of the Seattle Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, President of AIDS Housing of Washington (now Building Changes), and Chair, Seattle Center Advisory Commission.
